Virginia Woolf’s “New Dress” was published in 1927. In a satirical comedy, she portrays Mabel, a 40-year-old middle-aged woman, in her outdated dress to a friend’s house. She had expected the dress will make her light glittering, helping her in the community to climb. However, her family is humble and has no business to accomplish. After she had received a petition for a party hosted by Ms. Dolly, she tried to get a low-priced, low-end tailor to make a dress she was going to wear. In order to make her clothes look different, she was deliberately chose a very old-fashioned dress style.
