The core of consumerism is desire. Such a kind of consumerism is a unique social and economic phenomenon of Western civilization. However, the so-called “consumerism ” in the domestic market is only an expedient measure to stimulate domestic economic growth by borrowing such a way of consumption from the West. By analyzing the income levels and consumption patterns of all walks of life in China at present, this article attempts to illustrate the current civilized characteristics of the so-called “foreign ” in “consumerism ” and the resulting long-term development of China’s consumerism (Not just an economic phenomenon) --- a transition to a consumer society and a consumer economy. It can be seen from the analysis that China has not yet entered a consumer society with a large middle class as its consumer body and has not yet achieved the transition from an industrial economy to a consumer economy. Therefore, there is no mature consumerism in the country at the moment.
