文章语言较正式,但一些口语的使用,增加了文章的可读性,如:have the economy in a garbage pail(使经济一团槽),two a pennv(多得不值钱)等。
This is a leader from the “Economist” magazine. The article expressed his views on the ambitious new plan for government space announced by President Bush on January 14 this year at the NASA headquarters in Washington. According to the new plan, the United States will set up a forward position on Mars to land on Mars after 2015 and will send astronauts to Mars for exploration after 2030. It is estimated that the plan needs to invest hundreds of billions of dollars. In this regard, the author opened up the meaning (p.1-4) and considered it unwise to do so. On the one hand, most Americans do not support them. They think that the government should consider more domestic realities. On the other hand, from NASA’s history of Apollo’s manned mission to the moon, investment is often large, with little success. In the second part (p.5-8), the author further uses Apollo’s case to explain his own point of view. He believed that Apollo served political affairs. The NASA Bureau took the money of the government and wilfully squandered it. It did not obtain any economic benefits, nor did it promote the development of knowledge. Therefore, the author suggests that it is best to invest in private entrepreneurs to develop space for tourism and entertainment purposes. In the last part (p.9-11), the author re-emphasizes that the manned space program is expensive and does not bring any useful value. Therefore, the author expresses his appreciation and support for private space pioneers who aim for profit. To this end, he called on the government not to blindly guide NASA. At the same time, NASA should not monopolize space exploration rights in order to allow Americans not only to go beyond space but also to truly develop and use space. The language of the article is more formal, but the use of some spoken language has increased the readability of articles, such as: have the economy in a garbage pail, two a pennv (more worthless). In terms of vocabulary, it is necessary to pay special attention to some improvised compound words. This is a clear news language. In addition, when the authors give their opinions or make suggestions, sometimes the tone is very euphemistic. For example, it is unwise to imply that it is sensible to ask questions about whether it is wise to do these things; use these private space entrepreneurs. It is worthy of appreciation." Explain that the development of space is best invested by private entrepreneurs. In addition, he used the words of space adventurers to indirectly express his suggestions.
