The improvement of sorghum varieties in China has undergone three stages of development from 1949 to the present. The first is the sorting and utilization of farm breeds; the second is the breeding of new breeds; the third is the utilization and research of heterosis. By reviewing the history of the improvement of sorghum varieties and summarizing the experiences, it provides a reference for the future development of sorghum breeding in China to breed more fine varieties
