We detect the levels of OPG/RANKL in serum using ELISA in 22 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF),22 patients with permanent AF and 40 patients with sinus rhythm. The levels of OPG/RANKL in patients with permanent AF were statistically higher than that in paroxysmal AF or sinus rhythm controls and the LADs in patients with permanent AF were statistically higher than that in paroxysmal AF or sinus rhythm controls. The levels of OPG/RANKL in patients with paroxysmal AF were statistically higher than in sinus rhythm controls, but, the LADs in patients with paroxysmal AF were\'t statistically higher than that in sinus rhythm controls. Our results suggest that OPG/RANKL may participate in the occurrence and persistence of AF.
