一、引言近十年来电子物理学中一个新开辟的领域——自由电子激光(缩写FEL),正在迅速地发展成一门热门学科。短短几年中,自由电子激光的专题国际会议已经开过9届,仅最近,在1987年9月在美国威廉斯堡召开的第九届FEL国际会议上,就有近200篇论文发表。在其他很多学术会议上也有FEL的专题分会(如国际红外与毫米波年会、等离子体物理学年会……)。此外,还举行过多次国际讨论会(如1987年6月在中国成都举行的国际迴旋管、自由电子激光讨论会),出版过多次专集,开展FEL研究的国家越来越多,投入的人力物力也在迅速增长。FEL受到这样的重视,得到这样快的发展,主要是由于它自身固有的突出优点和巨大的应用前景。本文将对FEL作一简要介绍,并对我国如何开展FEL的科研工作提出个人的初浅意见。二、FEL的特点及其发展过程
I. INTRODUCTION Free electron laser (FEL), a newly developed field in electronic physics in recent ten years, is rapidly developing into a hot subject. In just a few years, a free international conference on free-electron lasers has been held for 9 sessions. Only recently, nearly 200 papers were published at the 9th International FEL Conference in Williamsburg, September 1987. In many other academic conferences, there are also FEL thematic chapters (such as the International Annual Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves, the Annual Meeting of Plasma Physics ...). In addition, many international symposiums (such as the International Gynecology and Free Electron Laser Symposium held in Chengdu, China in June 1987), numerous publications and more and more countries engaged in FEL research have been held Human and material resources are also rapidly growing. FEL has received such attention that it has achieved such rapid development mainly due to its inherent outstanding advantages and great application prospects. This article will make a brief introduction to FEL, and give a personal preliminary advice on how to carry out FEL research in our country.
