蛇根草素因其作用缓和、临床应用没有耐药性与成瘾性,一般副作用亦轻微,故近年来在高血压病的药物治疗中,应用极为普遍。常见之副作用为鼻塞、心率减慢,疲乏、腹泻、夢惊及嗜眠。发生食慾减退,噁心,头痛及头晕者较少。个别病例可发生血管神经性水腫,帕金森氏综合病征及精神失常。有关蛇根草素引起男性机能减退者国内文献偶见提及,但发生阳萎者尚无记载。故将本院高血压专科门诊所见一例因利血平(Reserpine)引致阳萎简略报导如下:

About snake venom caused by men with hypothyroidism in the domestic literature occasionally mentioned, but there is no record of impotence. Therefore, the hospital hypertensive specialist clinics see a case of reserpine caused by impotence briefly reported as follows:
