Objective To investigate the changes of nerve conduction velocity (NCV), F-wave and sympathetic skin reaction (SSR) in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and its clinical value. Methods Ninety-seven DPN patients underwent electrophysiological examination including motor nerve conduction velocity (MCV), sensory nerve conduction velocity (SCV), F-wave and SSR. Results The rates of abnormalities were 75.2% for SSR, 48.8% for NCV and 34.5% for F, respectively. The severity of lower limb neuropathy was higher than that of upper limbs (P <0.05). Conclusion Combined application of NCV, F-wave and SSR can comprehensively evaluate the damage of peripheral nerves in diabetes. The three are mutually reinforcing and indispensable.
