Foshan Electrical Lighting Co., Ltd. is the first joint-stock pilot company in Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Its predecessor, Foshan Electrical Lighting Co., Ltd. is a state-owned enterprise owned by the whole people. It is the export base for mechanical and electrical products approved by the State Council and enjoys the right to self-management import and export. It won the 1992 National May 1st Labour Award. The company mainly produces electric light source products such as ordinary light bulbs, iodine tungsten lamps, motorcycle lights, copier lamps, automobile lights, high-pressure mercury lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, energy-saving fluorescent lamps, and electronic ballasts. More than 90% of these products are exported and sold to more than 20 countries and regions such as Europe, the United States, and Hong Kong. They enjoy the reputation of “Chinese lamp king” in the international market. The total industrial output value of the company in 1992 exceeded 400 million yuan, which was 80 times that of 1979 before reform. It realized profits and taxes exceeding 100 million yuan, accounting for a quarter of the total output value, and earned foreign exchange of US$34.06 million.
