Objective: To investigate the effect of decreasing the tube current on the image quality of atlantoaxial lesion in children with spiral CT. Methods: Totally 34 cases of suspected atlantoaxial diseases were randomly divided into low dose group and conventional dose group. They were performed spiral CT scan with 80mA and 180mA respectively. The volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) was recorded and the length of the scan recorded to calculate the average dose length product (DLP). The image quality of different scanning parameters were scored separately and statistically analyzed. Results: The CTDIvol of low dose (80mA) and routine dose (180mA) were 8.7mGy and 19.6mGy, and the DLP were (36.80 ± 3.60) mGycm and (82.14 ± 7.18) mGycm, respectively, No statistical difference. CONCLUSION: The reduction of the tube current during pediatric atlantoaxial spiral CT examination can not only significantly reduce the radiation dose but also ensure the image quality and meet the requirements of clinical diagnosis.
