According to Vietnam’s “People’s Daily” March 7, 2011 reported that the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee recently approved the 2011-2015 Ho Chi Minh City public transport development proposal. The city will purchase 1680 new buses in 5 years with a total investment of nearly 2 trillion dong (about 100 million U.S. dollars). The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee will encourage various organizations (including enterprises and cooperatives) to participate in the development of public transport in Ho Chi Minh City by subsidizing the interest and operating expenses of payment. Vietnam’s domestic automobile manufacturing industry is underdeveloped, with buses mainly relying on imports. The new bus purchase plan for the Chinese bus company is both a challenge, but also a time to adjust the strategic objectives.
