豫西地区主要发育有东西向、北西向和北东向三组断裂,分别为印支—燕山早中期、燕山晚期和喜山期构造运动的产物。这三组断裂控制着盆地边界和盆地内的局部构造,并对上三叠统地层的剥蚀也有一定的控制作用,尤其是硖石—陈宅沟、硖石—石门断裂对上三叠统地层的保存影响较大。在其下盘,上三叠统地层保存良好,在其上盘即推覆体上,上三叠统地层往往遭受严重剥蚀。上三叠统地层主要分布在伊川盆地彭婆凹陷、洛阳盆地的洛阳凹陷和宜阳凹陷石陵次凹,其他地区三叠系地层剥蚀殆尽.
