Objective To investigate the clinical value of preoperative pulmonary function tests in detecting postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods Forty-five non-COPD patients in our hospital were selected as the observation group and 45 non-COPD patients matched for the same period as the control group. All patients underwent lung examination one week prior to surgery. Results The incidence of PPC in observation group was 37.78% (17/45), which was significantly higher than that in control group (13.33%, 6/45). The difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Patients with mild COPD surgery is more safe, and severe COPD patients with a higher incidence of PPC. Conclusion The postoperative COPD patients have a high incidence of PPC, preoperative pulmonary function tests for patients with non-chest surgery COPD has a high clinical value.
