渤海湾沿岸地下卤水类型属于硫酸镁亚型,此类卤水在形成过程中Ca2+、K+大量流失,距离海岸越远,流失越严重,造成Na+、Ca2+、Mg2+、K+、CL-、SO42-等主要离子之间的平衡被破坏。如果直接用于养殖南美白对虾,会对虾体产生离子毒性,导致南美白对虾慢性中毒死亡。在渤海湾沿岸地区,经常会有养殖户反映,利用地下卤水调配成盐度约20的人工半咸水,南美白对虾苗投放几天后便大量死亡,消毒、换水均无效果。究其原因,主意是对硫酸镁亚型地下卤水的特性没有很好的了解。
