Objective: To investigate the expression and differentiation of receptor activator of the nuclear factor-κappaB ligand (RANKL) in dental pulp cells at various periods of human primary root disappearance. Methods: 10 primary deciduous teeth were selected clinically. Primary in situ hybridization was used to detect mRNA expression of RANKL cytokines in different period of dental pulp cells when human primary deciduous roots disappeared. Results: The dental pulp cells and odontoblasts were stained positive by RANKL in situ hybridization and the expression was higher than that of the control group (P <0.05). There were significant differences in RANKL expression between various cells (P <0.05), but no differences in RANKL expression among various cells disappeared and disappeared Statistical significance (P> 0.05). CONCLUSION: RANKL is involved in the disappearance of primary roots of dental deciduous teeth. Dental pulp cells and odontoblasts may promote osteoclast differentiation and maturation.
