In today’s era of life, the emergence and prevalence of multimedia communications are the general trend. With the advent of applications such as digital television (DTV), IP video transmission, digital cameras, wireless video, medical imaging and video surveillance, many of the systems currently providing audio and data services expand with varying degrees of real-time video technology . Recent technological developments have shown that the dramatic increase in chip logic gate density and embedded functionality offers exciting design possibilities for multimedia processing designs. At the same time, you can take advantage of the additional flexibility that reconfigurable chips provide for attractive solutions. In this article, we examine the requirements of multimedia systems and some of the basic building blocks required for multimedia processing. We will then discuss converting abstract descriptions of real-time video applications
