Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of β-catenin and the differentiation of colorectal adenocarcinoma, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and Dukes’ staging. Methods SP immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of β-catenin. Results The expression of β-catenin in colorectal adenocarcinoma was reduced in 67.2% (39/58) of colorectal adenocarcinomas. The decreased expression was positively correlated with the degree of cancer differentiation (P<0.01). It was not associated with local invasion depth, lymph node metastasis, and Dukes’ stage ( P> 0.05). Conclusion The expression of β-catenin in colorectal adenocarcinoma often decreases, but it may not play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of cancer.
