In 1968 in Taiwan, a translation triggered a case - the writer Bo Yang was jailed for comic “Popeye” several translations. This article analyzes the translation of Bo Yang and the reasons for his conviction in the light of Lefevere’s translation theory and explores the relationship between translation and ideology. Through the study of the case of “Popeye”, we can see that although translation is closely related to the ideology of a certain historical period under certain circumstances, the issue of translation and ideology can not be simply and mechanically applied To translate theories, we should consider as many factors as possible so that we can have a fair and objective assessment of the translated works and translators.
