1991年10月3日《人民日报》登载了两则激动人心的报导,一则是《建国42年取得科技成果21万项——其中重大科技成果占一半以上》,另一则是《我国教育成就举世瞩目,形成世界最大教育体系——大专以上文化程度人口比建国初期增长80倍,人口文盲率由建国前的80％下降到22.2％》(目前已下降到15.88％)。这两项国家统计局提供的资料表明了新中国教育和科技事业的发展突飞猛进,已经取得举世瞩目的巨大成就。
On October 3, 1991, “People's Daily” published two very exciting reports: “There were 210,000 scientific and technological achievements made in the 42 years after the founding of the People's Republic of China, of which over 50% were major scientific and technological achievements,” and the other was "Education in Our Country Achievements have attracted worldwide attention and the world's largest education system has been set up. The population with college education has grown 80 times over the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the population illiteracy rate has dropped from 80% before the founding of the People's Republic to 22.2% (now down to 15.88%).
