化性起伪是荀子提出的一个命题。所谓化性起伪就是改变天性、修养良好的道德。与孟子片面强调道德感化的作法不同,荀子既把善德的修养作为他的政治理论的出发点,同时又认为人的先天恶性决定了不能把希望寄托在人们发挥自律的主体积极性方面,而应当由具有道德精神和道德权威的圣人为社会立法、由唯一能够自律而富有主动性的圣人无限地运用强制手段来保证这些社会规范的权威作用,从而完成每个社会成员的社会化。于是圣人化性起伪使圣人转变为圣王,对每个社会成员进行全面专制变得合情合理了。本文的目的就在于力求准确地展开荀子这套理论的逻辑全过程,探讨其中的奥秘。
The hypocrisy is a proposition made by Xun Zi. The so-called chemical hypocrisy is to change nature, cultivating good morality. Different from Mencius’s one-sided emphasis on morality, Xunzi not only regards the cultivation of good virtue as the starting point of his political theory, but at the same time considers that the innate viciousness of human beings can not pin their hopes on the active enthusiasm of people who exercise self-discipline. Instead, Sage with moral spirit and moral authority as the social legislation, by the only self-discipline and initiative of the saints unlimited use of coercive means to ensure the authority of these social norms to complete the socialization of each member of society. As a result, sageliness turned the saint into the holy king, and it became plausible for all members of society to have total autocracy. The purpose of this article is to strive to accurately start the whole process of Xunzi’s theory and explore its mysteries.
