检验花木种子的质量,通常采用标准发芽法。但需时较长,通常为20～28天,而对于许多具有休眠特性的种子来说,需要的时间就更长了。可是在生产中,常常需要在很短时期内(1～3天)及时了解种子质量,特别是一些难以贮藏的花木种子,如九里香、山茶、铁线莲、报春、文殊兰、朱顶红、鸢尾、鹤望兰等,通常是随采随播,更需及时了解质量。为解决这一难题,目前国内针对不同的花木种子,有如下几种快速测定法。
