对于化学结构较为复杂的药物进行合成设计时,文献中往往无现成的合成方法或者虽有但不够理想时,可采用模拟类推法进行合成设计,即根据该药物的化学结构特点和其分子中功能基形成的化学反应,或模拟类似结构化合物的合成方法,或模拟相同类型的化学反应拟订合成方案。最早的原子模型就是模拟天体模型设计出来的。模拟类推法对于科学的发展是极为重要的,是曾做出许多重大贡献的,有机合成化学的发展也不例外。换言之,模拟类推法往往与新反应、新方法、新试剂等新理论新技术的发明创造相联系的。有机合成化学上广为应用的化学反应有许多是通过模拟类推法而得到发现和发展
