社会生活就是一个大舞台。在这个舞台上,每个人都有自己特定的位置,扮演着不同的角色。各级组织中的秘书是辅助领导工作的,也就是说,在机关中扮演着领导参谋、助子的角色。所谓角色,就是在社会或某一群体中处于一定的地位,并按其相应的行为模式活动着的一类人。角色意识,则是特定角色对自己角色行为的认识。秘书的角色意识,就是秘书对当好领导参谋、助手这一角色行为的社会要求的认识,籍以不断地调节自我心理、自我行动。
