亲爱的朋友们:现在人们从四面八方用各种话来骂中国。我不准备花费时间和篇幅来列举扣的这些帽子。“与其咒骂黑暗,不如燃起一支明烛”。我不想咒骂任何人,只简单地讲一讲我为什么要到中国来,以及我看到了什么。我为什么在七十二岁的时候来到中国在我1946年第一次看到延安的时候,.我刚满六十岁。那时我已经经历过两大社会制度。我的前三十年是在美国西部度过的,我们曾在那里为争取较好的民主形式、妇女选举权、劳工参政以及通过公用事业公有化来反对“华尔街章鱼”而斗争。我成为西雅图教育委员会委员,后来成为中央劳工理事会主
