唐代是观音信仰的黄金时代,形成了三股不同的艺术风潮,其一是六朝以来正统的观音信仰,形象简素而安易,与中国固有的神仙信仰类似;其二则是极富印度特征的、复杂怪奇的密教变化观音,唐代最为盛行;其三是中国本土信仰与观音结合的。在这三股潮流中密教与艺术潮流的演变最值得注意,千手眼观音、如意轮观音、八大明王、毗沙门天王等都属于这股潮流中的典型代表。
The Tang Dynasty was the golden age of Guanyin belief, forming three different styles of art. One was the orthodox Guanyin belief since the Six Dynasties. The image was simple and easy, similar to China’s inherent immortal belief. The other was the Indian character , Complex and mysterious changes in Guan Yin, the most popular Tang Dynasty; the third is the combination of Chinese indigenous beliefs and Guanyin. In these three currents, the evolution of the secret education and the trend of the arts is the most noteworthy. Achillea Guanyin, wishful round of Guanyin, the Eight Kingdoms and Pisanmen are the typical representatives of this trend.
