生活于晚清、民国之际的郭则澐以学者身份从事小说、戏曲创作,先作《红楼真梦》小说,继撰《红楼真梦传奇》,这一再度创作行为和文体转换反映了作者对解读红楼故事的执著与自信;从人生态度和所处时代来看,其创作《红楼真梦》小说和戏曲的主要用意并不在于这两种文学样式本身,而是具有深远的文化内涵;就晚清以来的世道变迁与文化发展而言,这种道德忧患和文化忧虑并非多余,更不宜以落后腐朽完全否定,而是含有深刻的思想价值和认识价值。
