On April 17, 2006, Pulitzer Prize for the Year was presented to Geraldine Brooks, author of the novel March. Born and raised in Australia in 1955, Brooks was a veteran reporter in the Sydney Morning Herald and the U.S. Wall Street Journal and has long interviewed and reported on hot spots in the Middle East and other international hot spots. She writes two acclaimed nonfictional works: Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign Communications. Brooks wrote two novels. “Miracle of the Year” (2001) and “Mudgee”. Based on the story of Alcott’s 1868 novel The Little Woman, Marchi draws the last appearance of his father, Marchi, and expands his plot to describe March in the South Plantation in the context of the American Civil War Experience.
