From “Ba Steel News”, April 2, 1993 Japan’s Sumitomo Metal Industries Kashima plant invested 40 billion yen, the new No. 2 cold strip mill, has been put into operation in April 1, 1993. Designed to meet the highest quality requirements for cold-rolled steel sheets and surface-treated steel sheets, the cold-rolling mills are dominated by the production of ultra-high-strength steels and high-formability products. The mill is a five-stand fully continuous mill, the first of the first three pairs of cross-wound four-roll mill (manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Inc.) for high-pressure rolling and high plate thickness accuracy; the latter two mills Six-roll variable crown mill (CVC mill) ensures excellent flatness and surface quality.
