[Netherlands] / Lam CW ... // Clin Chim Acta, 2009, 402 (1-2): 150-155. BACKGROUND Urinary stones are prevalent in children exposed to melamine-contaminated milk powder. In order to diagnose, monitor and treat these patients, we elaborate on the clinicopathological features of the disease. METHODS: Clinicopathological data from children who had been exposed to melamine with evidence of urinary calculus undergoing sonography were studied. The content of melamine and cyanuric acid in urine was determined by mass spectrometry. Results The severity of the disease ranged from acute renal failure with hydronephrosis to symptomatic or asymptomatic stones with or without urinalysis.
