In 1997, the total output of tea in the country was 61 million tons, an increase of 3.4% over the previous year. The increase in China’s domestic tea provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Yunnan, and Hunan was higher than the national average, with growth rates in the four provinces between 4% and 9%. Due to the lack of supply in the international market, which drove up the domestic tea market prices and sales, the phenomenon of tea press storage has been significantly eased, and prices have risen by around 10%. There have been signs of a shift in the tea market from the buyer’s market to the seller’s market. Tea exports also increased significantly. In 1997, China exported 202929.75 tons of tea, creating a foreign exchange of 33.196 million US dollars. The export volume increased by 19.63% over the previous year. The amount increased by 18.08%, and the average export price fell by 1.38% to 1,641 US dollars/ton. The increase in China’s tea exports has benefited from serious droughts in countries such as Kenya, Sri Lanka and other countries that produce tea in the world, affecting tea exports. In recent years, tea sales in India have been rising, and it is difficult to restore the original export share in the short term. In addition, China’s traditional tea green tea, the international market showed a recovery growth in 1997, China’s green tea exports reached 55,866 tons, 169,662 tons of black tea, 17,019 tons of oolong tea, 14,906 tons of tea exports the second.
