吕思勉认为历史具有改良社会的重要功效,而为了实现这种功效,中学历史教学应该以社会学课取代历史课,从而培养学生的革命精神和社会改良思想。近代中国处在社会转型的大变革中,历史学自身也发生着转轨,在这种双重转型的背景下,吕思勉对中学历史教学的认识具有面向现实与面向世界的可贵品质,但缺乏实践的检验。
