In most parts of the developing world, Plasmodium continues to develop resistance to chloroquine, using the combination of amodiaquine dihydrochloride and primaquine phosphate to combat malaria more effectively than monotherapy. This article describes two methods for the determination of amodiaquine in preparations, one as a 1,4-benzoquinone imine derivative after reaction with periodate and the selective determination of amodiadequine by spectrophotometry. The second is the simultaneous determination of amodiaquine, primaquine and chloroquine by HPLC.
