This article intends to use Lacan ’s subject theory to analyze Sol Bellow’ s novel “Ravierstein”. Abbé Lavierstein, the Jewish protagonist in the novel, shows a wealth of charisma. His life of luxury, bohemian, and blindly respected Greek culture more than the Hebrew culture, has become an alienated subject. Though there are many violations in his conduct, his subject of speech expresses his fear of life and Jewish spirit in words. And his habit of playing the role of a father and the pursuit of recognition of mainstream American society are the embodiment of his desire. Through the analysis of Abe’s main body, this paper thinks that Bellow’s novel expresses the thinking of multicultural society. The author also advocates community awareness through Abe’s mouth.
