To investigate whether Channel Catfish Virus (CCV) infects fish other than Channel I catfish to evaluate the potential harmful effects of CCV on rare and economically important fish in China. The cell lines of C. salina, grass carp, carp and white sturgeon were selected as material, and the infectivity of CCV to these cell lines was verified from cytopathic effect, viral proliferation titer and so on. Experiments show that, CCV can be infected on the above cell lines, but the time of cytopathic effect, the degree of lesion and proliferation of titers vary. Among them, grass carp fin cell line (GCF), carp epithelial cell line (EPC) highly sensitive to CCV. The proliferation titer of CCV in EPC is comparable to that in the channel catfish Ovary cell line (CCO), and the proliferation titer in GCF is even higher than CCO. The results showed that CCV could infect other kinds of fish cell lines in addition to CCO, indicating that CCV virus may be infectious and potentially harmful to freshwater fishes other than Channel catfish.
