The Japan Atomic Energy Agency has proposed a method of accurately estimating the actual in-situ stress state distribution at any given point from the limited data obtained from in-situ stress measurements on the surface. We assume that the actual stress is formed by the combined action of overburden pressure and plate tectonic force. Two models are established: the three-dimensional finite element model and the boundary element model. The model considers the heterogeneity of geological conditions, such as the rock type Changes and the presence of faults. Then, in order to test the model, we applied this method to in situ stress state estimation of some measuring points around the underground research laboratory (MIU) in Ruilian.
