Block 018, operated by Philips, is testing micro-earthquakes for crushing and sinking information. In 1997, monitoring through Well C11a showed that the microseismic activity rate was 5 times per hour. If some of these microseismic activities are related to the water front, such a high incidence of events in combination with better positioning is sufficient to show the potential of the front-runout of the oilfield water. At least 16 fields have carried out micro-seismic monitoring related to hydrocarbon yield and current. So such observations can be more widely than expected. At Ekofisk, the location of microseismic activity plays a good supporting role in the interpretation of the fault system. Because of the overburden, the fault systems of these anticlines in the conventional seismogram are obscure.
