Horizontal and multi-branch well complementation is a priority in various types of reservoirs. However, although they have the largest contact with the reservoir, they tend to cone into the well and heel. This is the result of changes in frictional pressure drop and permeability along the well. Annular flow, which can cause severe corrosion and blockage of the screen, is another challenge. In the early 1990s, inflow controllers (ICDs) were an effective tool to solve the above problems. The ICD is currently widely used and can be applied to various well conditions. Oilfield monitoring has demonstrated that ICDs have the ability to control well flow profiles.
