无论西方文明还是中华文明,文字出现后很快成为文明传承的重要手段。在这个过程里,汉字历经千百年的发展,成为一门独立的书写性艺术。那么,同样具有悠久历史的拉丁文字能否成为书写性艺术呢?在现代的定义中,艺术是“反映当地生活,满足人们精神需求的意识形态”。[1]以此标准来衡量,拉丁文字的书写也是一门艺术。然而,在更大意义上,拉丁文字是一门装饰性艺术,它强调的是完成后的视觉效果。无论是最早的手写体《圣经》还是维多利亚时代潇洒的花体,拉丁文字在书写过程中努力达到的是使文字主体
Regardless of Western civilization or Chinese civilization, the writing soon became an important means of the inheritance of civilization.
