In 1926, Hemingway’s first important novel, The Sun Also Rises, came out as “a piece of historical work, a product of history.” (Yang Renjing, 2012: 41) The novel describes a group of Anglo-American youths who have followed Europe’s life scene and mental outlook after World War I. Hemingway firmly grasped the psychological sentiment of this generation and vividly reproduced the confusion and hopelessness confronting the destiny of youth who had suffered heavy losses in the two decades after the war. The shadows of post-war pain have shrouded in their lives and posed grave challenges for them.
