[Objective] To observe whether students’ participation in scientific research can enhance their learning outcomes in epidemiological and hypostatic statistics in preventive medicine curricula. [Method] 50 students in experimental group and control group were randomly selected. Experimental group was involved in scientific research practice. Control group only used traditional teaching method. At the end of the study, the two groups were compared by exams and questionnaires. [Results] The test scores of experimental group students, understanding of the importance of epidemiology and hygienic statistics in both parts of the literature, scientific research design, field survey techniques, the correct choice of statistical methods and the writing of scientific papers The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.01). [Conclusions] By allowing students to participate in scientific research, it is feasible and effective to study epidemiological and hygienic statistics in scientific research practice.
