Gregory Currie advocates monistic ontology of the arts and argues that art is a type of action. Carey maintains the aesthetic value of replicas and emphasizes the importance of the history of the production of artwork in determining his identity. This paper presents the origin, logic, meaning and limitations of Cary Theory in the context of intertextuality of the western contemporary art ontology in order to promote Chinese scholars’ attention to this issue.
