Objective To investigate whether breast cancers with different status of estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER, PR) have different risk factors. Methods A case-control study was conducted in the First and Second Affiliated Hospitals of Dalian Medical University from March 1996 to January 1998. RESULTS: The analysis of receptor status among cases suggested that there was a difference between the ER groups in age; there was no difference among the PR groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis between case controls revealed that stratified by ER status, only BMI, number of live births, and breastfeeding time had different effects on ER(+) and ER(-) breast cancer risk; according to PR The stratified state analysis of the factors was consistent with PR(+) and PR(-) breast cancer. Conclusion The results generally support the two-stage model hypothesis of Moolgavkar et al.
