This article describes the role and importance of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in global environmental and energy governance. First, we conducted a comparative analysis of this agency with other recent forms of global governance innovation and found that IRENA has outstanding performance in creating opportunities, approving speed, and focusing on responsibilities. Second, we found that IRENA promotes the global diffusion of renewable energy through three mechanisms: providing valuable intellectual services to its member states; focusing its services on renewable energy in a decentralized global institutional environment; mobilizing other international agencies Together to promote renewable energy. Finally, we summarize the conditions under which the IRENA policy will be able to sustain its success, as well as its lessons for innovative experimentation in the field of global governance.
