山西省吕梁地区教育局长刘辉汉非常重视农村教育的改革问题。他学习陶行知的“生活教育”理论,接受了“中国教育改造”思想。根据抗日战争时期山西“一揽子学校”的经验,1987年他设计了一个改革乡村教育的方案。为了实验这个方案,他找到一个穷村的党支部书记,商量如何试办一个新型学校。这个支部书记叫康梦熊,听说陶行知为了改造乡村,要创办一百万所乡村学校,很受感动。他说,陶行知要办一百万所学校,改造一百万个乡村,难道我连一所学校也办不成,一个村子也改变不了?他赞同刘辉汉设计的方案,于是在1987年秋天开办了柳林县前元庄实验学校。前元庄地处晋西黄土高原,是吕梁山上一个贫困山村,过去是“丰年吃糠,灾年逃荒”的穷地方,到1987年人均收入才320元。康梦熊下定决心要办好这所“村校
