The authors prepared epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R)-specific negative-strand oligonucleotide probes that bind 6 biotin molecules at the 3′ end and consist of 24 bases (5′GGA′GCG′CTG′. CCC′CGG′CCG′TCC′CGG3′), which is complementary to EGF-R mRNA. Oligonucleotide probes with 30 deoxythymidylate chains demonstrated the integrity of the mRNA and were 100% homologous to the EGF-R gene of interest.
