Using the four-digit product data from the prefecture-level cities in China (excluding Hong Kong, Maucao, and Taiwan) from 2002 to 2013, we set up a high-dimensional fixed effect model to explore the relationship between the emergence of new products and the neighboring regions. The regression results show that product evolution can take place across administrative boundaries between neighboring regions, but only on the basis that the local economy has a good industry base. At the same time, the decentralization between provinces will hinder the process of transboundary evolution. In addition, the transboundary evolution mechanism shows obvious regional differences and industry differences.
