清由中期转入后期的阶段,词坛上出现了一些擅于抒情且在艺术门径上不很偏狭的名家,周之琦是其中较为卓特的一个。其词由早期的闲情之作到中年引纳兰性德为同调,加之间关南北,旅途羁愁,则表现得情真意切,晚年逢乱世,哀生悯世之音及苍茫萧瑟之作渐多。周之琦的词用语雅丽,工于雕琢但读来流畅自然,在一种淡雅的伤感气息中为其词营造出了一种朦胧伤感之美,词人将深挚的情感寄托与词的合乐性相结合,在讲究形式的同时注重内容,既不为音律所缚,自由抒写其性情,又保留了词的本色。文章就其词作的词学主张、题材内容及其艺术特征进行分析,肯定他在音律、典雅及寄托方面的成就。
