This article first describes the nature of boride layers formed on steel alloyed with chromium, molybdenum or vanadium. The properties studied are: chemical composition, phase composition, microstructure, thickness, hardness and roughness. The wear test results given in this paper were obtained using different test equipment. Therefore, its main wear mechanism is clear. These results indicate that the various elements in the alloy steel dissolve into the boride layer
