Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum homocysteine (Hcy) level and diabetes mellitus and its chronic complications. Methods: A total of 309 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus under 60 years of age and 96 normal subjects under 60 years of age at the endocrine department of our hospital were enrolled in this study. Fasting plasma Hcy was detected in HCC patients. The levels of Hcy Level. Results: Compared with the normal control group, serum Hcy in diabetic group was significantly higher than that in the normal control group (1.38-fold, P <0.01). Serum levels of diabetic macrovascular complication group, microvascular complication group, neuropathy group and diabetic foot group Hcy levels were significantly higher than the simple diabetic group, respectively, the former 1.54 times, 1.48 times, 1.35 times and 1.56 times (P <0.01). There was no significant difference between the chronic complications of diabetes mellitus group. Conclusion: Serum Hcy levels in diabetic patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls. Serum Hey levels in diabetic patients with chronic complications such as vascular, neurological and diabetic foot were significantly higher than those without complications and the proportion of patients with high Hcy hyperlipidemia was increased. Suggesting that elevated serum Hcy is part of the abnormalities of diabetes mellitus; high Hcy in diabetic state may promote the occurrence and development of chronic complications.
