Objective To investigate the relationship between lower extremity vascular disease and C-reactive protein (CRP) in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods The blood vessels of lower extremities in 120 diabetic patients were detected by high resolution color Doppler ultrasonography. The levels of CRP, lipids, blood glucose and glycated proteins were also measured. The relationship between the above indexes and the severity of blood vessels in lower extremities was analyzed. Results The C-reactive protein and age in lower extremity vascular disease group were significantly higher than those in non-diseased disease group (P <0.01). The course of disease in lower extremity vascular disease group was higher than that in non-diseased group (P <0.05). Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (P <0.05). The incidence of atherosclerosis in diabetic CRP group was higher than that in normal CRP group (P <0.05). Conclusions The elevated blood levels of CRP in patients with type 2 diabetes are closely related to the occurrence and development of lower extremity vascular diseases. Therefore, in addition to blood glucose and lipid lowering, the blood levels of CRP should be positively controlled.
